2015 Year-End Message

Date: December 15, 2015

Partner in Eco Commerce,

Holiday greetings from Atlanta, I hope this message finds you well!

2015 is coming to a close, and as we look back at the many blessings this year has brought, we are grateful for your support. With your contributions, we have achieved many ambitious goals.

What the COP21 Climate Agreement Means for Eco Commerce?

Call to Action: “From Innovation to Implementation”

195 countries reached an agreement on climate change. How will it impact the Eco Innovators and Eco Commerce, and how businesses are responding?

The agreement comes into effect in 2020, aiming to ensure that global warming does not exceed 2 degrees C above pre-industrial levels, with an additional aim to cap this at 1.5 degrees C. A temperature rise of 2 degrees C could result in catastrophic environmental changes, such as extreme weather, accelerated melting of the polar ice caps and dangerous rises in sea levels.

What does this mean for the Eco Commerce?

This agreement is an important moment for Eco Innovators worldwide and a giant opportunity for Eco Commerce. Eco Commerce Media Group will help Eco Innovators share their information and proven low-carbon solutions with international audiences, to accelerate adoption of low-carbon technologies worldwide. The ECE media platform provides technology companies access to a powerful international media and business network, to share their expertise and experience in implementation of low-carbon technologies.

S.M.A.R.T Community Exchange (SCE)

The S.M.A.R.T Community Exchange (SCE) media platform, by Eco Commerce Media Group, will play a key role in sharing business opportunities with business leaders and investors.

Companies across developed and emerging markets are demanding ‘low-carbon and renewables’. This opens new business opportunities for Sustainable, Measurable, Achievable, Resilient, Technology (S.M.A.R.T) businesses and gives more confidence to investors. By investing in S.M.A.R.T development at scale, we can make S.M.A.R.T more affordable for more consumers to benefit.

As the first global agreement on climate change, the agreement sends an important signal that all nations, both developed and developing countries, are committed to a low-carbon development. Eco Innovation and our international business community, has a key role to play. We will share information about proven low-carbon solutions with our international audience, to encourage more trade and investment in low-carbon development, and enable implementation of low-carbon technologies. We can make a big impact by implementing proven low-carbon solutions available today.

S.M.A.R.T Partnership

Change to low-carbon and renewables requires people, businesses, investors, and communities to work together. The S.M.A.R.T Community Exchange (SCE) media platform is up and running. The SCE media partners will work together towards a goal of “sharing critical information, best technology and practices’” to help business and communities learn how their businesses and communities can benefit from low-carbon technologies, how they can fund their low-carbon development, and who can help them to get there.

S.M.A.R.T business leaders and investors have discovered that you need to partner to tackle business challenges and create new business opportunities. The SCE collaborates with SCEs across borders to drive change through the whole value chain. Timing is right to take action. The SCE partners will lead low-carbon development and implementation of proven low-carbon solutions available for consumers today. We are committed to engage and inspire our audience, disrupt and find new ways of doing business through low-carbon and renewable innovation.

A Global Effort to Share Information and Best Practices

Consumers are increasingly seeking and sharing information through social media. Businesses must back up their storytelling with substance, or risk losing consumer trust.

Some businesses are also partnering with cross-industry organizations and NGOs, which hold them accountable to targets, and many companies and business leaders across different industries have committed to net zero emissions by 2050.

As part of the Paris agreement, countries are committed to raise $100 billion a year by 2020, to help developing nations mitigate and adapt to climate risk. Businesses can share resources to help even smaller businesses build resilience to climate risk.

Banking on Low-Carbon and Renewables

The COP21 agreement was more ambitious than many predicted, in particular, the additional aim to cut global warming to 1.5 degrees C. Will this spur companies to cut their greenhouse emissions and ramp up their existing environmental policies?

Funding Low-Carbon Development

Transitioning to a low-carbon economy requires investment. Can businesses cut carbon and keep up business growth? Businesses have to make investments no matter what.  With low-carbon technologies dropping in price, investment in low-carbon in the long-term, is often good for business. Governments can also help companies follow a low-carbon path by incentivizing and focusing on growing the renewables in their regions, businesses are able to do more, to accelerate investment and implementation of low-carbon solutions. Concerns remain about real costs that low-carbon investments will mean for businesses. And there are no legal mechanisms currently holding business to their emissions goals. That could change, as countries that are bound by the Paris agreement draw up plans to radically reduce emissions in their regions.

Where to begin?

There are opportunities to work with businesses to improve supply chain practices and to ensure small businesses are more protected and resilient in the face of climate risk.  Parts of the developing world are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate risk, such as increased flooding and droughts. Traceability in supply chains can also give business leaders a better view on effects of their operations. One of the high-impact parts of the industry is in transportation and logistics, where businesses can partner with their transport providers on route optimization and choose eco innovation to reduce the impact of moving products around the world.

Consumers need to be inspired to minimize their energy usage.  Companies need to be educated how to implement S.M.A.R.T solutions to increase business opportunities and profits for the future.  S.M.A.R.T Community Exchange will provide education, introduction to solution providers, access to funding and international marketing solutions through our international network of S.M.A.R.T Community providers.

Let us introduce your S.M.A.R.T solutions to our fast growing global audience. For more information go to: EcoCommerceExchange.com  or SMARTCommunityExchange.com

We appreciate your ongoing support. I look forward to seeing you in 2016!
